Artist Carol Scicluna Returns to Her Creative Roots

A New Journey

“I’m delighted to return to my own passion of working with colour, creating beautiful, sensuous fabrics and sculptures,” says Scicluna. " After many years teaching and encouraging others to believe in their creative potential, I felt it was time for me to fully immerse myself in  in the glorious folds of silk design.”   I’ve always delighted in and collected art in the female form but this is not just what inspired me to start making Goddesses. I feel the connectivity of women around me, their vulnerabilities as well as their strengths. I’ve always fallen in love with the sculptures I make and want to share what makes my heart sing.”

Background and Inspiration

Scicluna’s journey has never followed a single path.  After beginning her career in the corporate world, she remained closely connected to art—rarely without a paintbrush in hand or her hair!  Her early involvement in interiors and design led to the launch of her decorative arts business, Carousel Colour, during the 1990s revival of specialist finishes.  Over the next decade, she built a reputation for hand-painted furniture, bespoke children’s nurseries, and intricately finished interiors, including hundreds of kitchens and bathrooms for leading kitchen cabinet makers across London and the Home Counties.

Her work gained recognition, appearing in Country Life and Ideal Home Magazine, and soon led to invitations to teach, sharing her decorative paint techniques with a wider audience eager to learn.

Alongside her artistic practice, Scicluna pursued a parallel passion for human biology, training as a Classical Homeopath. This blend of art and science shaped not only her professional path but also her deeply considered approach to environment and wellbeing. From designing richly detailed interiors inspired by Egyptian aesthetics to creating a serene countryside home in Hampshire, her surroundings have always been an extension of her creative identity.

“You can create almost anything with paint,” she reflects, “but painting on silk is infinitely more challenging than traditional surfaces—but so much more rewarding.”

In recent years, Scicluna has combined her artistic expertise with a commitment to Community wellbeing.  Through craft courses set in historic Hampshire venues, she has supported adults rebuilding confidence after isolation, as well as carers seeking restorative creative time. Her workshops, ranging from decorative arts to her popular ‘Felted Friends’ needle felting sessions, have empowered participants to transform raw materials into lifelike birds, animals, wearable art and expressive pieces.

Now, her work is evolving once again.  By integrating hand-painted silk with luxury fleece, Scicluna is creating tactile, sculptural forms that blur the boundaries between fine art and craft.

“I don’t always start with a fixed plan,” she says. “I put on my favourite music and let the process lead me; That’s where the magic happens!”

Let's see what the future holds...

This latest chapter marks a bold return to personal expression, where colour, texture and intuition take centre stage.
